Everything you need to know about Smidge® Sensitive Probiotic powder
We wanted to take time today to give you some background on our Sensitive Probiotic powder. We get many questions about this special product, as it's very different from the mass-produced, store-bought probiotics — and our new customers want assurance that they're getting a supplement that fits their unique, important needs.
Our philosophy is that overall health begins in the digestive system, so a healthy gut equals a thriving, happy body. Consider that an astounding 80% of your immune system is located in your digestive tract!
Also, we believe (and are living proof!) that a real food diet is the foundation in recovering and optimizing one's health. Think healthy fats, wild-caught fish, organic vegetables, and the elimination of GMOs, additives, preservatives, chemicals and processed sugar/flour.
So, what is Smidge® Sensitive Probiotic? It's a pure, premium and hypoallergenic formula designed to help "kick start" the digestive system and maximize the assimilation of vital nutrients — ultimately supporting the immune system as a whole.* Created for people with extremely sensitive digestive systems, it doesn't have certain strains found in other probiotics that can cause histamine, acidosis or other adverse reactions.* You also won't find common allergens, fillers or additives.
Probiotics primer
Before we get into the nitty gritty of our Sensitive Probiotic, here's a quick primer on probiotics for those of you who are unfamiliar.
Probiotics are bacteria that line your digestive tract and support your body's ability to absorb nutrients and fight infection. They have been in our systems since the moment we stepped out into the world!
Newborns are exposed to their mother's bacteria when making their way down the birth canal. This kicks off the production of good and sometimes pathogenic bacteria in the baby's GI tract, depending on the mother's health.
We also get probiotics from our food. Historically, there were plenty of probiotics in our diets from eating fresh foods from rich soil and by fermenting our foods. However, because of dead soils from over farming and a public phobia of bacteria (like sterilized foods, antibacterial soaps, preventing children from playing in the dirt, etc.) our American way of life now contains far fewer probiotic bacteria.
Healthy bacteria are vital to rebooting digestion and rebuilding your immunity.*Make no mistake, the right blend of beneficial bacteria — in the form of probiotic-rich foods and the right supplements — is the life force inside you. And your gut flora is responsible for how you respond to most everything you encounter on your health journey.*
Now, here's what makes our Sensitive Probiotic stand out…
Created with feedback from parents, doctors, the ultra-sensitive and those on special diets
Smidge® Sensitive Probiotic has a unique birth story. Our customers — most notably parents of children with sensitivities, food allergies and other health issues — told us they negatively reacted to other probiotics containing certain strains and fillers.
With probiotics, not all strains are beneficial for everyone. People, especially children struggling with particular sensitivities, can find that some probiotics do more harm than good. So over the years, we continued to gather feedback from parents, practitioners and people on diets including GAPS, SIBO, Body Ecology, autism/PDD-NOS, gluten-free, soy-free or casein free.*
Having decades of scientific research, a deep understanding of traditional cultures and diets and especially this invaluable feedback, we created a therapeutic-grade probiotic. It's unlike anything on the market in its suitability for "the sensitive of the sensitive", biohackers and other health-conscious individuals looking for an ultra-clean probiotic.
Adults and children 3 and over can take Sensitive Probiotic. For toddlers and babies, there's Smidge® Infant Probiotic.
Highest-quality ingredients and blended strain profile
Our Sensitive Probiotic is a potent, very condensed and clean formula with just the right blend of bacteria. As we touched on above, we omitted strains that caused reactions in the sensitive people that helped guide us. We carefully selected only those strains that support the digestive system and punctuate a real food diet.*
It contains eight clinically-proven strains of (7 human-sourced strains and one plant strain):
-
L. gasseri
- L. salivarius
- B.bifidum
- B. breve
- B. infantis
- B. longum
- B. lactis
- L. plantarum.
And it offers 3 billion CFU's per 20 mg serving, with a whopping 1,000 servings per bottle! The idea is to start with a *smidge* and fill the tiny measuring spoon, and then work up your dosage according to your needs under the advice of a certified medical practitioner.*
We use only the highest-quality probiotic bacteria in our Sensitive Probiotic. All of our strains have been thoroughly researched, documented and banked in recognized microbial culture collections.* Additionally, only human-compatible species of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are used in our formula (both colonizing and transient species with documented benefits are used).
All of these probiotics play a role when it comes to comfortable, healthy digestion – the foundation for longevity and beautiful health.*
Meanwhile, these strains work in synergy. If you're coming to us with concerning symptoms or chronic health conditions, our belief is that no single strain is the magic bullet for specific ailments and conditions. This is because they should work together, as they do in a healthy digestive system. If your gut bacteria is destroyed by pharmaceutical drugs and antibiotics, the toxins we're all subjected to, chemicals and a diet full of sugar, GMOs, processed grains and trans fats, the idea is to address the overall gut first.*
It's also important to note that Smidge® Sensitive Probiotic consists of freeze-dried bacteria. Old school probiotics contained live cultures that died in transit due to warm temperatures. Freeze-dried bacteria can withstand warmer temperatures during transit.
What's not in this formula
What we have omitted in this product is just as important as the incredible bacteria we've chosen. Our Sensitive Probiotic is free of common allergens, preservatives, binders and fillers, including gluten and dairy proteins.
Only Kosher-certified vegetarian capsules are used if you choose to purchase it in capsule form. These capsules contain cellulose, which is made from all-natural wood pulp and is the most benign filler that satisfies the requirements of the most sensitive customers.
This Sensitive Probiotic is sought out by communities including GAPS, SIBO, Body Ecology, Autism/PDD-NOS, PANDA/PANS, gluten-free/casein-free/soy-free, Crohn's and celiac for the following reasons*:
-
It contains only histamine-neutral or histamine-degrading strains of probiotic bacteria.
- It does not contain L-acidophilus, which is scientifically shown to contribute to d-lactic acidosis.
- It does not contain any spore-forming strains of probiotics.
- It does not contain streptococcus thermophilus or other strains linked to irritation.
- It's free of inulin and other prebiotics.
- It's free of excipients and other added ingredients i.e. magnesium stearate, silica, titanium dioxide.
- It's free of common allergens. All strains are grown on a dairy-free, soy-free, non-GMO vegetarian culture.
In other words, we intentionally avoided the strains your body is not ready to assimilate when you're out of balance. We picked the strains that work for you, not against you. We thought about you, every step of the way!
Great value for your money
Many people see the $100 price tag of this probiotic powder and question the cost. But please keep in mind, because it's ultra-premium, ultra-clean and therefore, ultra-concentrated, you only need a smidge per serving. And the bottle will last you a long time — roughly eight to 12 months, depending on dosage.
When you consider the quality ingredients we use in our formula and the dosing mentioned above, you will find that Smidge® Sensitive Probiotic is actually super cost-effective:
At the standard dose, a one-month supply costs under $8.
This is less than most store-bought probiotics and less than half the price of the mass-produced "premium" brands.
Here's what one of our many happy customers has to say:
Best Probiotics
"I have tried more than a few brands and I always come back to GutPro®. The best analogy I can think of is that it's like comparing $400 shoes to $10 shoes. There is just a world of difference in comfort and quality. With a child with many food intolerances and allergies and another with PDD-NOS, it really helps me that this has no fillers and everyone in the family can take it together."
