Product Description

Introducing Oysterzinc, a pure zinc supplement made from fresh oysters — aka the highest food source of zinc! Here to support your immune system with natural, whole-food zinc when you're in need.*

Our Oysterzinc is 100% oyster powder from fresh oysters off the coast of Ireland. Made in small batches from only the meat of the oyster (no shells!). No additives or fillers either.

Our process involves slow, gentle convection drying under a low temperature to preserve bioactivity and nutrient integrity, making for the most potent oyster extract around.*

Dosage Directions

Always start with a smidge! Take four capsules at once, per day, or as directed by a certified healthcare practitioner. (See "low and slow" note below).

Sensitive individuals (adults): One capsule, once daily. May increase dose over time if needed.

Start low and slow: Our supplements are premium, pure and potent. Therefore, it's critically important to start slowly, with a lower dosage than recommended. For example, a minimal dose every other day, or even once a week, until you can determine how the supplement affects your body and what feels right for you.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry area, away from direct light.

Oysterzinc nutrients

Because Smidge® Oysterzinc is a real food with all of its cofactors, it naturally provides an excellent source of zinc. Its natural cofactors include: peptides, amino acids and organic nutrients, making it bioavailable and easy to absorb.*

Plus, it’s rich in naturally occurring vitamin B12 and copper, and a good source of iodine. It also has selenium, which is an antioxidant, like zinc!*

Still wondering what more awaits once you pry open that clamped silvery shell? Oysters are bursting with:

  • 19 amino acids (including taurine)
  • 59 trace minerals
  • 12 vitamins
  • Omega-3 DHA and EPA*

All of these goodies are naturally present in sensible concentrations, so they can harmoniously work inside your body.

Why a natural zinc supplement from oysters?

Oysters contain the most zinc in any food — 10 times higher than the next richest source, red meat!*

But eating an oyster or taking an oyster zinc supplement differs from popping a commercial zinc tablet in an isolated form.

Taking zinc in an isolated form can upset the body's natural mineral and nutrient balance, as it doesn't include zinc's inherent nutritional cofactors. For instance, the body's important copper reserve can become depleted if zinc is taken on its own.

What is in Smidge® Oysterzinc?

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Oysterzinc different than commercially available zinc supplements?

Oysterzinc is a natural shellfish food. All of its nutrients are organic in origin, making them 100% bioavailable. The trace elements in Oysterzinc are bound to transport molecules (peptides, amino acids), allowing the body to soak up all of the oysters' zinc and other nutrients.* The high concentration of free amino acids and peptides are also directly available to the blood once consumed, making them fast-acting.

On the other hand, mineral supplements in an isolated form need to bind to transport molecules during digestion before they can be absorbed, which may affect their bioavailability. It can also upset the body's natural mineral and nutrient balance, as zinc supplements in an isolated form do not include the mineral's inherent nutritional cofactors. For example, the body's important copper reserve can become depleted if zinc is taken on its own.

All of the trace elements in Oysterzinc are present in significant, yet balanced concentrations, ensuring they work harmoniously as nature intended. This means they will support your body's natural mineral and nutrient balance because you're consuming the mineral as a real food.

Is Oysterzinc organic?

We harvest the oysters that comprise your Oysterzinc from the pristine Atlantic waters along Ireland's lush coastline. In turn, all of its nutrients are organic in origin, though the product is not certified organic.

Is this product safe for pregnant women?

Pregnancy dramatically increases nutritional demands for expectant mothers. RDAs (recommended daily allowances) for many nutrients increase during this time and also during lactation. For example, the RDA for zinc increases from 8 mg to 12 mg daily during pregnancy and lactation. Oysterzinc may help meet those increased nutritional demands as it contains the nutrients and cofactors necessary to support growth and development.* Please note it is not appropriate for those with fish or iodine allergies.

What foods contain zinc?

Here are some foods that are high in zinc:

  • The high and mighty oyster!
  • Beef patties
  • Alaska king crab
  • Cooked lobster
  • Cooked pork chop loin
  • Baked beans
  • Dark meat chicken

Other food zinc sources include yogurt, pumpkin seeds, milk, chickpeas, oatmeal, almonds and cheddar cheese.

Where are the oysters harvested?

We harvest and hand-shuck the oysters that comprise your Oysterzinc from the pristine Atlantic waters along Ireland's lush coastline. You can’t find a true zinc supplement like this anywhere else.* Here's more information about our product quality

Is Oyster zinc free of common allergens?

Yes :) It does not contain milk/casein, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, gluten or soybeans. Please avoid this product if you have a fish or shellfish allergy.

Is Oysterzinc sustainable?

We consider sustainability every step of the way in harvesting our oysters and caring for the ocean that yields this bounty. As mentioned above, when sourcing our oysters, we take a conservation-driven approach aimed at preserving native species and supporting the survival of endangered varieties.

We derive the extract from Crassostrea gigas. And we harvest the oysters at their peak nutritional levels — with careful consideration of various growth parameters, including geographical, temporal and seasonal factors. This precise approach is informed by decades of expertise in marine biology.

We also return the shells to the ocean to support marine restoration, providing a habitat that encourages the growth of baby oysters.

    Helps so much!

I love the oysterzinc from Smidge. I've used other similar products from other companies, but this one is definitely the best. I keep coming back to this brand. It helps with healing my body after too many years on BC, managing my anxiety, and also keeping things happy with my husband. ;-)

    Awesome product

I love this oyster zinc selenium and iodine product. I can't eat oysters on a regular basis as I don't have access to them, well to fresh ones that is and I don't like the ones out of the can. So I love having a product that can supply those nutrients in an easy way to get them. The tastes is like the sea so wash them down with something that tastes good like juice or coffee.
